Heartful Rootz Apprenticeship is a hands-on, Indigenous-led learning program where participants cultivate herbs, harvest plants, make elixirs and self-care products, and learn how wellness work can serve community healing, mutual aid, and sustainable fundraising. In collaboration with Love Warrior Medicinals, we are building a living classroom rooted in culture, care, and stewardship.
This apprenticeship builds more than skills. It strengthens cultural continuity, youth confidence, food and medicine sovereignty, and community wellness. By teaching participants how to grow, prepare, and share herbal products, we create opportunities for mutual aid, fundraising, and small-scale entrepreneurship that directly supports Heartful Rootz programs and the communities we serve.

Our apprenticeship introduces participants to the full cycle of herbal wellness work: learning herbs, growing and harvesting plants, making elixirs and self-care products, and understanding how those creations can be gifted, sold, or used to fundraise for community programs. The experience is both educational and relational, connecting plant knowledge with care, responsibility, and reciprocity.

We partner with Love Warrior Medicinals, Portals, Queer the land, and a variety of organizations and businesses in our community to provide comprehensive mental health services to those in need.

This program is designed for Indigenous youth, emerging herbalists, and community members seeking hands-on skills, cultural connection, and pathways into wellness-based entrepreneurship. We center learners who benefit from practical training, mentorship, and a supportive environment where traditional knowledge and creative expression are honored.
The Heartful Rootz Apprenticeship creates real, lasting impact in our community. By turning these opportunities into paid apprenticeships, we remove financial barriers so Indigenous youth and emerging herbalists can learn, work, and grow without sacrificing basic needs. This support builds confidence, skills, and aspirations, helping participants imagine and move toward business ownership, community cooperatives, and wellness‑based livelihoods.
As apprentices learn to grow, harvest, and make elixirs and self‑care products, they create tangible healing resources for our community. These products can be gifted, sold, or used for fundraising, which directly supports Heartful Rootz programs, youth cohorts, and community events. Over time, this model strengthens food and medicine sovereignty, cultural continuity, and neighborhood‑led care systems.
We are raising funds to transform our Heartful Rootz Apprenticeship into a paid, land‑based training program that removes financial barriers so more youth and community members can participate. These paid apprenticeships will provide fair wages for learning, working, and building skills, while also helping participants grow toward business ownership and community‑led enterprises.
Your support will help us:
Every dollar you give helps turn this apprenticeship into a living pathway: from learning herbs on the land, to making healing products, to launching community‑rooted businesses and sustaining our programs through mutual aid and fundraising
