Year one (2022):
Heartful Rootz held its first market, a collaborative effort with Sky Nursery, in December of 2021, supporting 50-plus vendors with marketing, advertisements, photography, vendor preparation, resource sharing and business plan. Throughout 2022, along with additional markets, we hosted free training, affinity group meetings, recruited board members and made more community connections that allowed us to expand our efforts as well as networks of communication with a diversity of institutions.
Year two (2023):
Year three (2024):
Year four (2025):
Year five (2026):
We are Heartful Rootz, an accessible, inclusive BIPGM-led market community centered on the conscious overcoming of injustice, bringing forth unity, equity and evolution. We have a commitment to providing radically progressive support for makers, farmers, artists, staff and volunteers who seek to co-conspire with our pursuit of collective liberation.
In opposition to the status quo, we acknowledge that our deepest act of love for one another begins with the HEART; the part of ourselves that yearns to uproot the effects of colonialism and imperialism to return to our original design as care-holders and stewards of this earth.
We are committed to authentically connecting with our communities, providing safe, affirming and supportive networks that will bring growth, renewal and revival. Starting with the Seattle metro area, we seek to expand these efforts throughout Washington state and continue this mission throughout the west coast.
While our intentions are to support BIPGM-led businesses and collaborations, our long-range goals are centered on reclamation; reclaiming our languages, cultures, medicines and traditions that reconnect us with ourselves, our communities and the earth. This is vitally important to the rejuvenation of Black and Indigenous communities in particular, but the global community as well. More specifically, knowledge around holistic and comprehensive health and wellness for BIPGM communities is under ongoing tyranny by way of systemic racism and oppression, and white supremacist structures continue to create obstacles that keep us from accessing ancestral knowledge that yearns to be shared in dynamic ways. While, as individuals, we may do the necessary shadow work that helps to bring healing within ourselves, we acknowledge that bringing these healing practices to the forefront facilitates the formation of collective liberation in one's mind, body and spirit. While the foundational elements of this may begin with profound application of improved nutrition and exercise practices, increased emphasis on mental health as mental wealth can better our chances for remaining consistent to the adoption of and adaptation to healthy practices that dispel enmity within the self. As an organization that strives to uplift BIPGM communities, which will dually uplift all communities, our pursuit of whole body health and wellness will come from creating a space that facilitates reclamation and renewal as sources of strength and reconciliation.
Additional growth opportunities will be in holding creative and entrepreneurship classes for BIPGM youth, focusing on Black and Native foster youth through mentorships, internships and apprenticeships, empowering more BIPGM leadership within our collective. Furthermore, we are presently working to form food sovereignty with farmers and herbalists who have special interests in native horticultural development, as well as sustainable agriculture, continuing our work of creating safe spaces for growing, collaborating, forming, healing and cultivating a healthy, virtuous life through connecting with our own cultural roots.
